Companion Crop Mix
IPM3/CIPM3
We’ve been at the forefront of developing companion cropping for winter oilseed rape (WOSR), pioneering its use to improve crop establishment, manage pests and deliver environmental benefits. Our expertise also extends to small-leaved clovers used as ‘living mulches’ and companion crops for cereals.
Our standard companion crop mix for WOSR, combining buckwheat, berseem clover, and fenugreek, remains the most popular choice. This balanced mix helps protect young plants against cabbage stem flea beetle (CSFB) - trials show that companion crops can reduce adult and larval pressures - and qualifies for the SFI IPM3/CIPM3 companion cropping option. Read more about how companion crops help OSR establish here.
We also offer bespoke mixes and straights tailored to your specific agronomic needs, soil type and rotation. Whether you’re trialling alternative species or looking to fine-tune your strategy for herbicide compatibility and persistence, our team can help.
Together with Velcourt, we have trialled companion crops with cereals and have some good data about herbicide safety in those situations.
