Seeking evidence of blockers to nature recovery in England
The Office for Environmental Protection (OEP) has launched a call for evidence seeking specific examples of regulatory and practical blockers which prevent, delay or discourage the on-the-ground delivery of nature restoration, conservation and management in England across land, freshwater and coastal areas.
Professor Robbie McDonald, the OEP’s Chief Scientist, said:
We want to help identify practical opportunities for landowners and occupiers in England to go further and go faster for nature
Anyone with relevant experience can respond. We are all invited to put forward up to five blockers, starting with what we consider most significant, as well as anything that has helped to overcome them. The findings will inform OEP's future reporting, advice and engagement with government and regulators.
Blockers may relate to law, regulation and consenting, policy and guidance, how requirements are interpreted and applied, established practice, or wider factors such as communication, expertise or relationships.
The call is open until Monday 14 December 2026.
