Kale crop with wide rows and strong canopy, ideal winter cover for game birds in wet and windy conditions

Game Kale

If sown correctly, given plenty of nutrition and pest protection, kale provides the perfect winter cover for game birds. The large leaves act as great canopy and shelter from wind and rain, provided it has been sown on wide rows to allow space for game underneath.

Our main varieties are Gruner Angelita, Thousand Head, Anglian Gold and Goldeneye. In addition, our Gold Fire Kale Blend proved very successful again last year - a combination of kale varieties treated with Take-Off seeming to deliver outstanding early vigour.

  • Gruner Angelita / Thousand Head / Anglian Gold - good early vigour, long stem and winter hardy. Good second year crop. Straight, recleaned only
  • Goldeneye - good early vigour, some club root resistance, strong stem and winter hardy. Straight, recleaned only
  • Gold Fire Kale Blend - a mix of Goldeneye, Anglian Gold and Spitfire kale rape. Excellent early vigour and good winter hardiness. Seed treatment – Anglian Gold is treated with Take-Off ST
  • Seed treatment - Gold Fire Kale Blend - Anglian Gold is treated with Take-Off ST
  • Bag size - 1kg (straights only) or 5kg (straights or Gold Fire Kale Blend, hectare)
