Great-crested newts, along with their habitats whether breeding (e.g. ponds) or resting (e.g. rough grass or woodland), are protected by law.
In many cases, you should be able to avoid harming the newts by planning work carefully, but if disturbance to the newts or their habitat is unavoidable, you may be able to get a mitigation licence from Natural England. Please contact the Oakbank office to discuss any great-crested newt ecological survey work you may require.
