Wild Bird Seed Mixture

The CFE and Environmental Stewardship Schemes have different rules depending upon which scheme you are in and which option you have chosen.

The ELS Wild Bird Seed Mix requires you to have a combination of  small seed bearing species, not including maize or giant sorghum.  The HLS Mix that you will be required to grow could be prescribed by your Natural England advisor, or you could have some input via a 3rd party advisor such as Oakbank.  We have run training on these mixes for Natural England and they are very responsive to sensible suggestions.  If you are not happy or unsure about your HLS prescription, please talk to us as we are sure we can help.

Our standard mixtures cover a wide range of situations, but we also offer a Bespoke Mixing service when required.

Gamemix 109

Suitable for CFE, ELS and Game Cover

This is an inexpensive mix, ideal for the CFE scheme and it requires minimal inputs after sowing.

Contains: Mustard, Fodder Radish, White Millet, Phacelia, Buckwheat and Reed Millet

Gamemix 406

Suitable for CFE, ELS and Game Cover

This NEW IMPROVED mix has been popular with our clients as it offers an ELS compatible option, giving excellent cover for game and that can be kept clean with herbicide.  The seed can be drilled with conventional  farm kit, but benefits from a row width of 35 – 50cm

Contains: Spring Triticale, Red,White and Reed Millet, Linseed and Dwarf Grain Sorghum

Oakbank Bumblebird Mix

Suitable for CFE, ELS and Game Cover

This mix was designed by Ian for a number of HLS agreements in the South West Farmland Bird Initiative.  It is a Cornucopia of palatable seeds for a wide range of target bird species, as well as having some useful pollen & nectar species mixed in for added benefit.  It is suitable for many HLS HF12 presciptions but please check with your HLS Advisor or your prescription first.  If in any doubt please contact us.

Corn Bunting Mix

Suitable for CFE, ELS and some HLS Agreements

This mix has primarily been designed to meet the requirements of several HLS clients that we have worked with, as it is a prescription mix for their agreements.  This mix is actually for the Corn Buntings to both nest in, late into the summer, as well as feed on later in the season.

Tree Sparrow Mix

Suitable for CFE, ELS and some HLS Agreements

Like the Corn Bunting Mix, this is primarily aimed at HLS clients that need this for their HF12 prescriptions.  However it is an excellent choice for farmland bird enthusiasts who are looking for a CFE mix that is very straightforward to grow.
