The launch of Oakbank in 2005 coincided with the launch of the Environmental Stewardship and, over the last 5 years we have been involved with a large number of ELS and HLS applications.

This year see the launch of the the campaign for the Farmed Environment as well as renewals of the original ELS agreements. We will be urging all of our clients to support the CFE and to renew ELS or join ELS if they are not already in it. There have been lots of scare stories going round about the vast amount of land you will have to take out of production but that is not the case. Yes, you will be expected to put more land into ‘in-field’ options but there are ways to maximize the benefit to you and to farm wildlife, which will meet the requirements of the campaign without significantly reducing your cereal acreage. It may also involve a change of mind set. Instead of thinking of it as ‘giving up’ productive land you are just farming that productive land in a different way. Rather than growing food for human consumption you are growing food for wildlife.
