Wildlife Ponds

Whether you want a new flight pond conveniently located to attract geese and ducks for your shoot or you are creating a wildlife pond as part of Higher Level Stewardship then Oakbank can help you with your plans. We can help you design, locate and create your wildlife pond. Some points to consider when planning your pond would be

The shape: irregular edges are preferable to circular ones

  • The landscape: your pond should be similar to other ponds in the area so it will not look out of place
  • The depth: A variety of depths from very shallow margins to pools of between 1 and 2 metres will provide habitats for different types of plants and animals
  • Islands: islands should be low-lying and wet and are only suitable for larger ponds. They can be valuable for wetland birds.
  • Shelter: Trees and shrubs may be planted near the pond to provide shade and shelter. Never plant on the south side of a pond or around a pond in an open landscape.
