After graduating from University in Cork City on the (occasionally) sunny coast of Ireland with a BSc in Applied Ecology, it took Diane another 2 years to finally escape the charms of the South coast of Ireland.
The lure of working on research projects with the Zoology department on delicious topics like cod, haddock and the oysters (especially good with a pint of Guinness) was replaced with the temptation of travel and the prospect of steak in South America and barbeques in Australia.
Since returning from her travels she has worked with the Grey Partridge Conservation Project on the last remaining population of grey partridge in Ireland where she trailed a number of unsuspecting partridge with radio-tracking equipment across wide areas of cutaway bog and pored over game crops to check the numbers of insects available to feed new-born chicks. All this was done while enjoying the culinary benefits of living on her family’s mixed farm in Tipperary which specialises in tender beef and spring lamb.
Whilst in a field in Northumberland last year on a game shoot walk (where she learned that grey partridge don’t typically live on bog), she fortunately met Tim and Ian and realised they shared a common interest in grey partridges. Diane has joined the Oakbank team as a Farmland Ecologist to help with environmental stewardship applications and is always on the lookout for her next culinary adventure.
