Oakbank Habitat Management

Ever fancied your own wild flower meadow or a conservation area full of native flaura and fauna or are you considering keeping livestock or horses and want to improve the pasture? If so, then call Oakbank. We offer a one-stop shop for people with the vision but not the resources. From advising on the right seed mix or hedging plants and trees to carrying out the cultivations, sowing, planting and post planting care to clearing out old ponds or creating new ones, Oakbank have the expertise and equipment to make your vision a reality.
With the help of FWAG advisor and recognized grassland ecology expert Elizabeth O’Beirne-Ranelagh, we can offer some exciting new pasture mixes specifically targeted at providing the right dietary balance for our equine friends (see horse paddock info)
Our Habitat Creation and Management Services include the following:
Field Margin Management: As well as advising on field margin management we are now able to offer a practical service for the many farms and estates that lack the small and specialized equipment necessary for sowing, cutting or spraying these awkward areas.
Hedge and Tree planting service:
You may have an old hedge that needs gapping up, or are planning a new hedgerow, or planting a shelter belt or small copse – whatever your plans this autumn/winter, do give us a call. We not only supply high quality plants from a family run nursery in Yorkshire but we also offer a planting service, including spirals, tree guards, canes and stakes.
Wild Flower Meadow creation and maintenance
What can be better than sitting out on a balmy summer’s evening, perhaps with a glass of chilled wine, watching the swallows and house martins swooping over your own wild flower meadow? We will help you select the species you would like to see, taking into account the floral colours, the soil type, location and your budget. Budget is important as you could spend from as little as £100 per acre for the seed to £2000 per acre or more if you require local provenance, rare native species. If you have access to cultivation and sowing equipment then we will provide you with detailed notes to give to your contractor to ensure he does the best job for you. If you don’t have that local help then we can either recommend a local contractor or, if you are within a 30 mile radius of Ellington, we will come and do the job ourselves.
However you wish to do it, please contact us for advice and information.
Pond creation/renovation:
If you are considering putting in a new pond or clearing out an old one then Oakbank can help you with both the planning and practical side of your project. We have a network of contractors that we can source to carry out work on your behalf. Oakbank can be involved to whatever level you require, from a simple initial consultation through to complete project management and follow up. It is often the post-establishment phase that is the most important if your project is going to deliver the benefits you will be hoping for. Give us a call to discuss what you have in mind and we can explain how we can deliver a cost-effective solution tailored to your needs.
